Season Detail
Soccer season is almost upon us, and we hope you are all excited about getting outside for some fun on the pitch! The Summer Soccer Season begins the week of July 7th and runs until August 21st. Please note, there will be no sessions Thursday, July 31 or Monday, August 4th.
Schedule and App Use
For the 2025, season we are fully utilizing the PowerUp Connect App, found in your Android and iOS app stores. Once you have registered in our program, please download the app and log in using the same credentials as at registration. Your schedule will be fully available for your child and for your family. The PowerUp app does allow for schedule export into other calendar options.
First Session
What should we do when we arrive at first session? Please find a SoccerTech staff member who will sign your child in, give them their gear (if needed), and direct them as to where they should go. Please be patient and keep in mind that first session will be unusual due to the check-in procedures.
What if my child cannot make first session? If your child cannot attend the first session, don’t worry, their kit will be available when they come to session for the first time.
Uniform Handout
When will my child receive their soccer kit? If your child has not attended Spring Soccer, Soccer kits include jersey, shorts, and socks and will be available from your first session. Your child will be given the sizes originally requested at registration (when possible). Please hold up the jersey and shorts to your child to gauge size BEFORE putting them on. Once they have been worn, they cannot be returned. If you hold them up to your child and find that they are way too large/small you will need to contact us via email to request a new size (subject to availability). The kits at the fields are designated to players so you may not exchange them at this time.
Player provided Supplies
Players are provided with a jersey, shorts, sock; these are mandatory to be worn on top of any thermal layering.
Players need to provide shin guards and cleats/running shoes. Shin guards are mandatory for U5 and up and must be worn inside under their socks. Shin guards are available for purchase at Kicks Sports in Varsity, SportChek, Walmart, Canadian Tire etc. Cleats are recommended as they provide better traction on the fields, but they are not mandatory.
What else should I bring? A name-tagged water bottle (only water is allowed, no sports/sugary drinks), a warm hoodie or jacket and sweatpants (to wear under your jersey/shorts if needed). On occasion, you may even need a hat and mitts – it can be cold in Calgary!
Washrooms
Washrooms are not available at most of our locations (exceptions are Dalhousie, Hillhurst and Triwood). Please ensure your child uses the washroom before coming to session.
Weather Cancellations
We only cancel sessions to protect the player’s safety or the field’s integrity.
How do know if sessions are cancelled due to weather? Weather cancellations will be made day of by 4pm. You will be able to see these updates on our twitter feed or on our website (there is a twitter feed on the right side) SoccerTech.ca. Please also consider following our X (twitter) account (@SoccerTechYYC) to get the most up to date information. Please note – we do not usually cancel for cold weather, so please dress your children appropriately. Cancellations are made for severe weather (thunderstorms, blizzards) and field conditions (saturated fields).
Sessions were not cancelled but a thunderstorm is predicted – should we go to practice? Yes!! Calgary weather is unpredictable! If there has not been a cancellation issued by 4pm, prepare to go to session. Coaches at the field will halt/cancel practice, if thunder is heard. Play must stop for 30 minutes from the last sound of thunder. This is why it is essential that guardians always remain at the fields! Inclement weather policy: Weather Policy Information Card
Over the last year’s, smokey skies have always impacted the soccer program. Alberta Soccer’s Air Aware Policy requires us to cancel sessions with an AQHI of 7 or higher. We observe the Weather Canada Calgary NW Station for detail.
Finally, Alberta Soccer also enforces an Extreme Heat Policy which forces us to shut down training or play above 40 degree Celsius.
Will sessions that are cancelled due to Smoke or Lightning be made up? Weather or Smoke cancellations or other “Acts of God” will not trigger refunds, credits or make-up sessions as they are outside of SoccerTech’s control. SoccerTech may decide to offer some good will and offer make-up sessions if there are 4 or more of these cancellations in a season.
Parking
Parking is extremely limited. If you live close to the field, consider walking to sessions. Please be good stewards of our neighborhoods and act responsibly – nobody appreciates it, if someone parks in front of their driveway.
Further Questions
I have questions/issues regarding the soccer sessions, who should I speak to? If your question is regarding what field your child should be on (or something similar), feel free to talk to a coach at the field. If you have questions/issues that extend beyond this (ex. Need a new kit, would like information on how sessions are run, have an issue with another player…) you will need to contact us directly at info@soccertech.ca. Coaches are at the fields for your children and a question period eats into play time.
