Season Detail
Soccer season is almost upon us, and we hope you are all excited about getting outside for some fun on the pitch! The Spring Soccer Season begins the week of April 27th and runs until June 20th. Please note, there will be no sessions May Long Weekend from the 15th to the 18th, including.
Schedule and App Use
How do I access the schedule? Please download the PowerUp Connect App from your app store and log in using the same credentials used at registration. The app includes: • Your child’s schedule • Exact field locations (especially important for older programs)
Split-parent families If another parent needs access but you do not want to share your login:
1. Have the other parent create their own PowerUp account
2. Contact SoccerTech together
3. Admin can link both accounts so each parent has independent access
First Session
What should we do when we arrive at the first session? When you arrive, please find a SoccerTech staff member who will: • Sign your child in • Provide their soccer uniform After receiving their uniform, your child will be directed to a field to join a game. Please note: There will be no skill coaching during the first session due to uniform distribution. The session will focus on facilitated game play.
What if my child cannot attend the first session? No problem. Your child’s uniform will be available the first session they attend.
Uniform Handout
When will my child receive their soccer uniform? Your child’s soccer uniform (jersey, shorts, and socks) will be provided at their first session. • Sizes are based on what was requested at registration (when possible). • Before putting the uniform on, hold the jersey and shorts up to your child to check sizing. • Once worn, uniforms cannot be returned. If the size is clearly too big or too small: • Inform staff at check-in of the required size. • The correct size will be available at the next training session. Uniforms are assigned to specific players at the field and cannot be exchanged on-site.
Player provided Supplies
Players are provided with a jersey, shorts, sock; these are mandatory to be worn on top of any thermal layering and shin guards.
What should my child wear?
Required: • Soccer jersey • Shorts • Socks • Shin pads (required for ages 5+) • Cleats or running shoes Shin pads must be worn inside the socks. Shin pads can be purchased at: • Kicks Sports (Varsity) • Sport Chek • Walmart • Canadian Tire Cleats are recommended for traction but not mandatory.
What else should I bring? • A water bottle labeled with your child’s name • Clothing appropriate for Calgary weather • The jersey must be worn as the top layer.
Washrooms
Washrooms are not available at most of our locations (exceptions are Dalhousie, Hillhurst and Triwood). Please ensure your child uses the washroom before coming to session.
Weather Cancellations
We only cancel sessions to protect the player’s safety or the field’s integrity.
How do know if sessions are cancelled due to weather? Weather cancellations will be made day of by 4pm. You will be able to see these updates on our twitter feed or on our website (there is a twitter feed on the right side) SoccerTech.ca. Please also consider following our X (twitter) account (@SoccerTechYYC) to get the most up to date information. Please note – we do not usually cancel for cold weather, so please dress your children appropriately. Cancellations are made for severe weather (thunderstorms, blizzards) and field conditions (saturated fields).
While emails may be sent, do not rely on email notifications, as they are not guaranteed.
Sessions were not cancelled but a thunderstorm is predicted – should we go to practice? Yes!! Calgary weather is unpredictable! If there has not been a cancellation issued by 4pm, prepare to go to session. Coaches at the field will halt/cancel practice, if thunder is heard. Play must stop for 30 minutes from the last sound of thunder. This is why it is essential that guardians always remain at the fields! Inclement weather policy: Weather Policy Information Card
Over the last year’s, smokey skies have always impacted the soccer program. Alberta Soccer’s Air Aware Policy requires us to cancel sessions with an AQHI of 7 or higher. We observe the Weather Canada Calgary NW Station for detail.
Finally, Alberta Soccer also enforces an Extreme Heat Policy which forces us to shut down training or play above 40 degree Celsius.
Will sessions that are cancelled due to Smoke or Lightning be made up? Weather or Smoke cancellations or other “Acts of God” will not trigger refunds, credits or make-up sessions as they are outside of SoccerTech’s control. SoccerTech may decide to offer some good will and offer make-up sessions if there are 4 or more of these cancellations in a season.
Parking
Parking is extremely limited. If you live close to the field, consider walking to sessions. Please be good stewards of our neighborhoods and act responsibly – nobody appreciates it, if someone parks in front of their driveway.
Further Questions
I have questions/issues regarding the soccer sessions, who should I speak to? If your question is regarding what field your child should be on (or something similar), feel free to talk to a coach at the field. If you have questions/issues that extend beyond this (ex. Need a new kit, would like information on how sessions are run, have an issue with another player…) you will need to contact us directly at info@soccertech.ca. Coaches are at the fields for your children and a question period eats into play time.
